Why independent?

From your local coffee and farm shop to the craft beer found in selected pubs - independent businesses offer us a sense of authenticity that has been somewhat lost with larger brands. The very nature of them, however, makes them hard to find. They are too often hidden in the backstreets and unable to bid for our attention online. They remain hidden gems - loved by those in the know, but impossible to discover by those who aren’t.

With the help of our community, our mission is to support these businesses - providing them with a platform and voice that captures consumer attention, ultimately helping to bring color and prosperity back to our high streets.

Why recommendations?

Third-party reviews and ratings, whilst giving us a broad indication of quality, fail to reflect and therefore satisfy the individual preferences that make us who we are.

Instead, they are more often than not influenced by extreme emotions (displaying the very best and worst experiences) and not the intricate details that make an experience desirable to you.

This is why recommendations have been placed at the heart of recce. It is our friends, family, and surrounding network that have the greatest influence on, and understanding of our personal taste.

It is the recommendations from these people that we trust. Even within our network of peers, who we ask recommendations from will vary depending on where we go and the type of experience and occasion.

Our aim is to showcase content from reliable individuals with amazing local knowledge of their area, using your trusted social network to validate the places you discover.
